Loans & Bad Credit Nearly everyone has needed a loan at some point in their life for a car, home, education, or to just get ahead on some of other bills. I have needed financing for all of the above but my largest problem in getting some of this financing has been a bumpy credit history. There are times in your life where you don’t realize that making a few late payments on a credit card might make it hard for you get a loan you might desperately need in the future. The good thing is that it is not completely impossible to get bad credit history loans when you really need them. Before Searching For Your Loan One of the first things I did before looking into getting a loan was do what I could to fix what I could on my credit report to make my bad credit history look a little less bad. This meant writing the credit reporting agencies to request any items that I felt were inaccurate to be removed. Along with that I requested any debt that had been on my credit report for more than seven years to be removed. Lastly, for any account that I had brought current I wrote the credit reporting agencies asking that my credit report be updated to reflect my on time payments and included copies of my most recent statements to support my request. Even after this I didn’t have a stellar credit report but it was a little bit better than it was when I got started. It might seem like a lot of work but spending a little bit of time fixing everything you can on your credit report will help you in the long run. Finding Bad Credit Loans Searching for these loans should start with companies that you have a good relationship with already. These can include your bank or credit union if you have had an account in good standing with them. Many credit unions and banks, especially smaller chains, will try to work with you to find a loan that you can qualify for and they will do everything in your power to guarantee you a reasonable interest rate. If you do not have a bank or credit union that you can work with and you own property that could be used as collateral you can always approach a larger bank that specializes in loans. Most banks will be willing to work with you and your credit history problems if you have property that can be used to secure the loan. Lastly there are various finance companies that focus solely on bad credit history loans. These lenders specialize in providing funds to those who are usually considered high risk and can usually be found through referral or in your local papers financial resource section or yellow pages. In many cases the interest rates on these loans will be higher than those of a traditional bank but they will work harder to qualify you for the funds you need. |
