It can be very confusing to know the difference between the people trying to help you and the
people trying to extort you. If you are trying to rebuild or repair your credit, chances are you are in
a financially vulnerable place. This is why so many credit repair specialists and companies have
sprung up almost out of nowhere offering you amazing services.
What they offer
These companies offer many amazing promises and magic solutions. They often claim that they can
completely get rid of all negative aspects of your credit report and increase your score. Some of
these companies claim to be able to give you a new credit rating and you can start from the
beginning. Even if some of the companies are legitimate and they want to help you, it is better to
avoid them at all costs.
Why avoid them?
You may wrongly assume that the worst thing that could happen if you use these companies is that
they won’t do as they said they would. This is not the worst that could happen to you. There are
serious legal consequences to using these companies that give you a new credit rating or a new
identity for a credit report.
Finding the scams
There are proper credit repair specialists that are dedicated to helping you and they are a proper
and well run business. It is important for you to be able to spot the companies to avoid and the
companies to use when looking for credit rebuilding.
Upfront fees
One of the first things to avoid is the companies that charge you an upfront fee for wildly
inaccurate promises. If the credit repair company is real, they will happily work for you and bill you
later on when successful. Always use the companies that are able to explain and show you the
legalities of repairing your credit and avoid the companies that cannot answer any legal questions
regarding your account.
New identities
Never use the companies that tell you they can sell you a new identity for a credit rating as this is
just absurd. They may not say it outright, but if they are telling you they can give you a new credit
file, they are selling you a new identity. This is highly illegal and will land you in serious trouble if
and when you are caught. Remember that if you use a credit repair company that is using illegal
practices in one way or another, you will be the one to be prosecuted later on.
Finding the right company
Once you have sought out all the scams and know what to look for, you can start using a company
that will actually work hard on your behalf. Remember that some credit repair specialists are there
to help and assist you, while others are just there to take advantage of your already precarious
situation.
