Free Copy Of My Credit Report |
|
|
Few things in life are really for free but luckily for all of us there really is such a thing as a completely free credit report. I have taken advantage of pretty much every possible method when it comes to getting a free copy of my credit report. Why do I care if it is free? I simply cannot always afford to buy a copy of my credit report and there are plenty of times when I have really needed to check on my credit activity. Why Check It At all? If you don’t monitor your credit report for unusual or inaccurate information no one will. It is too easy for something to appear on your credit report that can negatively affect your chances of getting a loan for a home, a new credit card, or a car. When you are someone who doesn’t bother to check your credit report you are only increasing your odds of becoming the latest victim of identity theft. Many identity thieves depend and thrive on the people who don’t take the time to check up on their credit. That makes it easy for them to open an account in the victims name, run it up over the limit, and then never pay without getting caught. In some cases by the time the victim becomes aware of the fraudulent account years have passed and it is even harder to track down the thief. This day and age there are more ways to get a free copy of your credit report than there used to be. Not that long ago the only way you could get a free copy of your credit report was to physically mail a copy of a credit denial letter to the credit reporting agency used by the credit company. Then you had to wait for the credit reporting agency to physically mail a copy of the report. This process can take awhile even if there are no delays at all. You can still get a free copy of your credit report whenever you’re denied credit but now it is a little bit easier. If you apply for a store charge account, and are denied, you will usually be given a sort of receipt with a confirmation code on it along with a phone number. When you call the number (usually a credit reporting agency line) you will be asked to enter the confirmation code and will have to verify some information via the phone so that your credit report is mailed to you. This saves you the step of having to actually write and mail a letter yourself. If you are someone is internet savvy you also have the option of getting a free credit report online. I almost always get a free copy of my credit report using trials of credit monitoring services. That way I have 30 days worth of access to my credit report and am notified via email if there are any changes to my report. |
