Free Online Credit Check

Identity Theft Grows

As more cases of identity theft are reported to the public and the methods for committing identity theft grow more sophisticated it gets harder for average people to guard against identity theft. In many cases we, the victims, aren’t aware that our identity has been stolen until well after the fact and by then the damage is done. To avoid spending weeks trying to report all incidents of fraud and identity theft it’s important to try to complete a free online credit check as often as possible to keep an eye out for suspicious activity.

The easiest way to check your credit is to take advantage of the internet. Many people still prefer to mail in requests for their credit reports but that means waiting for the letter to arrive at one, or all, of the three major credit reporting agencies. Then you must wait for your request to be processed along with the hundreds of other requests the credit reporting agency received before your request arrived. After getting your credit report in the mail you then still have to go over the credit reports to look for discrepancies and start the mailing process all over again.

Checking Credit Online

Using the internet to complete an online credit check speeds up the process enormously. There are dozens of companies online offering instant access to your credit report but I recommend going directly to the three major credit bureaus, Trans Union, Equifax, and Experian.

Most of these free online credit check services require signing up for a free trial of a variety of credit monitoring and repair services. The majority of these services include a detailed credit report, information on how to dispute inaccurate credit items, and additional credit report monitoring if you choose to keep the services. You are not charged until the very end of your trial period and have the right to cancel at any time keeping your credit report at no charge.

3 in 1 Credit Reports

Using a free 3 in 1 credit report for your online credit check has more advantages than being free. These credit reports give you instant online access to your complete credit history as reported by the three major credit reporting agencies. You don’t have to worry about waiting weeks or more just to compare notes; you are able to compare all three credit reports at once.

Being able to compare all three free credit reports will increase your chances of locating any instances of identity theft since there is always the chance that fraudulent activity is being reported to one credit reporting agency instead of all three. Once you have compared all three credit reports in most cases you will be able to start a dispute directly online if you do notice any fraudulent activity. Even if there is no suspicious activity it is important to continue to do a free online credit check every few months to properly monitor your credit.
